Energiewende, Germany - Energy Transition
Germany's Energiewende ("Energy Transition") is a comprehensive policy program aiming at altering the country's energy landscape by lowering reliance on fossil fuels and nuclear power while dramatically expanding the use of renewable energy sources. This transformation affects a variety of sectors, including power, heating, and transportation, with the underlying objective of creating a more sustainable and ecologically friendly energy system. Legislative support for the Energiewende was passed in late 2010 and included greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions of 80–95% by 2050 (relative to 1990) and a renewable energy target of 60% by 2050.
